Curriculum in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
All classes follow a themed curriculum, linking subjects and ideas wherever appropriate. Many of the themes are in the form of questions or catchy titles to encourage children’s interests and involvement from the start. Each theme lasts about a half term with creative ideas and thinking from both adults and children being included in the themes.
Most themes cover Geography and / or History, Design and Technology, Art. Some also include Science and Music. Examples of themes are:
Year 1: How can I find out about me?
Year 2: What can we learn about Awesome Animals?
Year 3: Where is Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory?
Year 4: Can we travel along Route 66?
Year 5: Ruler or ruled?
Year 6: Woolton Village and the Sandstone effect?
Some subjects may not always fit into themes and may be taught discretely. Mathematics and literacy are taught separately, though skills learned will also be transferred into themed lessons
At the beginning of each term the children will take home a summary of their term’s work.
