Sensory Spaces
At Springwood Heath, we are proud to offer purpose-built sensory spaces that provide pupils with a safe, engaging, and therapeutic environment tailored to support a variety of sensory needs. These areas are designed to enhance sensory processing, emotional regulation, and overall well-being, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to thrive.
Soft Play Area
Our Soft Play space is a calming, enclosed environment filled with padded flooring, cushioned shapes, climbing blocks, tunnels, and ball pits.
This area offers rich proprioceptive and vestibular input by allowing children to climb, crawl, roll, jump, and crash safely. These activities help develop body awareness, balance, and coordination, while also offering a safe outlet for energy release and self-regulation. The tactile feedback from soft materials also supports tactile sensory integration, promoting comfort and relaxation.
Sensory Light Rooms
We have two dedicated Sensory Light Rooms that create a multi-sensory experience through a carefully curated combination of visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli. These rooms feature bubble tubes, fiber optic strands, projected visuals, interactive light panels, and calming music.
-
The visual input from changing lights and colours supports focus, visual tracking, and stimulation of visual processing.
-
The auditory elements, including soft background music or nature sounds, help with sound discrimination and auditory calming.
-
Some equipment provides vibrationand gentle tactile feedback, offering additional sensory input that is grounding and soothing.
These environments are ideal for de-escalation, quiet time, or structured sensory breaks, and they are integral to our inclusive approach to learning.
