Pathway Model

Pre – Formal Pathway

Children may experience significant and multiple barriers to learning, these include sensory needs, communication difficulties and behaviours that challenge the child to engage with learning. Learning must be personalised and meaningful with an emphasis on engaging them.

Semi – Formal Pathway

The children will follow a yearly curriculum consisting of English/My Communication, Maths/ Thinking and Problem Solving, The World About Me, my Independence, My Art, PE/PSHE and Music. The Equals Curriculum will be used as a guidance to activities along with EHCP and Planning for progress targets. This will ensure the curriculum. Is personalised for all children.

Curriculum Model

At Springwood Heath we aim to support our learners to become:

·       Children who are able to access and engage with personalised learning opportunities.

·       Children who access a curriculum that promotes positive wellbeing and their resilience.

·       Children who are ready for the next stage of their education and learning.

·       Children who are able to self-regulate their behaviour and sensory needs, as well as keep themselves safe.

·       Children who are independent and confident.

At Springwood Heath School all aspects of learning and school life are designed to inspire and engage pupils, through focusing on the outcomes in a child’s EHCP and an exciting mix of a learning through our curriculum, developing creative and sensory opportunities as well as promoting essential life skills. The aspects of communication and engagement are key to all we do and underpin our approach to learning.

Throughout the curriculum we develop skills for life. The aspirations we have for our children link to the four areas of an EHCP, Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning SEMH and Physical and Sensory. We have four long term goals for our children linked to the four areas of the EHCP,

·       Developing skills for health & wellbeing

·       Participating in society

·       Developing independence

By keeping these four areas at the forefront of our minds and planning we will support our children to make progress and aspire themselves to become more independent learners.
